Sunscreen
Overview
The main cancer risk in sun exposure is ultraviolet radiation, and sunscreen is used to reduce UV damage. Sunscreen as a category is not established as a cancer cause. Some concerns focus on specific ingredients, endocrine activity, absorption, or contamination incidents such as benzene in certain recalled products, but those are product-specific safety issues. The careful framing is that sunscreen can reduce UV-related skin cancer risk when used properly, while ingredient quality and product recalls should be tracked separately.
