Exercise - Lack of
Overview
NCI and ACS describe physical activity as a cancer-prevention factor. Higher activity is associated with lower risk for several cancers, including colon, breast, endometrial, bladder, kidney, and stomach cancers. Lack of exercise can contribute indirectly through obesity, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, altered sex hormone levels, slower gut transit time, and poorer immune and metabolic function. This is one of the stronger lifestyle-related causes because multiple biological pathways and epidemiologic findings point in the same direction.
