What Ultrasonography Means
Ultrasonography, often called ultrasound, is a medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the body. A device called a transducer sends sound waves into the body, which bounce off tissues and organs. These echoes are captured and turned into images on a computer screen, called sonograms. This test is painless, does not use radiation, and is widely used to look at many parts of the body, including the abdomen, breasts, blood vessels, and during pregnancy to check on the unborn baby.
