When there is too much thyroid hormone, your metabolism speeds up, which can cause symptoms such as nervousness, rapid heartbeat, sweating, weight loss, and muscle weakness.

Why Hyperthyroidism Matters in Cancer Care

While hyperthyroidism itself is not cancer, it is important in cancer care because thyroid problems can sometimes be related to cancer treatments or other endocrine conditions. For example, radiation therapy to the head or neck can affect thyroid function. Also, some tumors in the pituitary gland, which controls hormone levels, can cause hormone imbalances including hyperthyroidism.
